So who's up for an IHOA adventure?
We are currently able to offer stays of up to three months for individuals/couples/groups. This runs on an on-going basis, so specific dates will be figured out according to individual schedules. If you somehow got to this page, but don't even know what IHOA is, then start here.
Otherwise, do read on...

Why should you come?Because we benefit, the local community benefits, and you will benefit. We are all about serving and loving those around us through various projects and investing in meaningful relationships. IHOA is also a space for people to learn about themselves, ask the awkward questions, and discover a Jesus that lives and moves outside of our cultural boxes.

Ok, but what is it like? It's weird. Seriously, jumping into a different culture is a crazy experience. You can expect regular morning meetings (or as we sometimes like to call it, mystical morning... just sounds more intriguing) with us at the house and some meals together. But just like in real life, it is ultimately up to you and God to set your schedule. We will help connect you with people and organizations where you can just dive right in and serve. That could include:
-Gospel Choir -Street Buddies -Local youth center -Various churches -Organic farming -Worship -Prayer -Refugee camps -English tutoring or just speaking English with people who want to practice -Music -Something else pertaining to individual interests/abilities... What does it cost?First of all, don't be overwhelmed by the financial stuff! If everything sounds great so far, don't let the cost discourage you. Get in touch with us anyway, and let us know what's on your heart.
Different lengths of stay and other circumstances will affect the cost, but for stays of three months, we would probably need to ask 600EUR/month per person for room & board. Other costs to consider: Flights & travel, personal spending money, health insurance, cell phone. You will most likely need to do some amount of fundraising to make this happen. We are here to help coach and guide that process as well. |
Who are we looking for? Those that join us should foremost be on a mission to practice loving and serving others and interested in discovering more about Jesus. Beyond that, they should also be:
-FLEXIBLE We make loose schedules and go with the flow. -A self-starter We will provide options, but people will need to take initiative and jump in. -Willing to step out of their comfort zone -Willing to at least try speaking German! It's not as scary as it sounds. -Open to receiving something new from God -Ready for small-town living -Ready for community living This includes actively participating in housework, yard work, and cooking! Along those lines.. if someone is a very picky eater or has special dietary needs, shared meals and a community kitchen can be challenging- especially in a foreign country. -A generally healthy and active person aged 21+ |
I'm there, how do I apply?
If any of this has sparked your interest, fill out the contact form below to get the conversation going! After that you can expect an application form, so we can get to know you a little better, and most likely a Skype chat to seal the deal. (Don't worry, we feel awkward Skyping, too.)
