In 2019, the Organization for Anabaptist History in Austria asked me to be a part of a compilation album project. The idea was to record new songs inspired by the old Anabaptist hymns and specific historical events that occurred around and after the time of the Reformation. Many people were killed for their faith, some were well recorded, and some were not. This song touches on the stories of the known and unknown martyrs, and also points to the greater message of hope that lives on well after their earthly lives have ended. Plans for recording ended up going the way so many things have gone during the pandemic... so my husband and I just ended up producing it from home, with the help of Tiziano Capiello for audio mastering. Below is the lyric video, and if you scroll down you will find a live version. On June 19, I was able to do some worship and share "I'll Tell Your Story" live with friends (Martina, Karl, and Johannes) at FCG in Linz during a lecture on women's roles in the Anabaptist movement. Just click here to view the video of the livestream! Normally this time of year, I'd be out with the MauthausenGOSPEL! choir performing at Christmas markets. But I don't need to tell you that this is no normal year. Putting together a video seemed like a good way to stay connected and do something together, even when we can't sing in the same room. It was also an opportunity to reminisce with some old clips of Christmas past. Back in 2004, I wrote and recorded "Yes He Is Born!" (then titled "Silent Night") with my dad on guitar and harmonica. In 2018 I brushed it off and made a new arrangement with parts for the choir to sing. Thanks to Tiziano Capiello for laying down a groovy Keyboard track, mixing the sound, and making it all work with support from Giovanni Blasi on drums and Vladislav Beba on Bass. And of course, it doesn't happen without the singers- thanks so much for your contributions that make this video so fun! I'll be playing a couple songs today during a live stream event in celebration of "Tag des Lebens" (day of life). Karl and Johannes will be joining me on bass and cajon/vocals. :) We'll just be rounding out the program, playing between speakers. I hear that they have some amazing and encouraging stories to share, so tune in live or catch the recording later! (There will be English and German translation).
